Hood played shortstop for the Owls from 2001-02 and was selected in the 18th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs. One of the most talented players in school history, Hood was named 2002 NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region Player of the Year as well as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year. The two-time All-Peach Belt Conference pick, and career .383 hitter, Hood is currently listed in 12 of the Owls top 10 lists and still holds the program's single-season record with 24 doubles. His 37 career home runs are the most by a two-year letter winner.
