It would be difficult to find a more impressive start to a program than Kennesaw State women’s soccer under head coach Rob King, who led the Owls to an undefeated 18-0-1 record in their inaugural 2002 season and a Division II Tournament appearance. Building on that momentum, KSU entered 2003 with one clear goal—winning a national championship—and quickly established itself as a dominant force with explosive scoring and a strong mix of veteran leadership and new talent. Despite a mid-season setback, the Owls responded with a lengthy winning streak, capturing the Peach Belt Conference title and advancing through the NCAA Tournament without allowing a goal.

Kennesaw State capped its historic run with a 2-0 victory over Franklin Pierce in the national championship match, becoming the first program to win a national title within its first two seasons of existence. The Owls also made history by not conceding a single goal throughout the NCAA Division II Tournament. Laura Tucker earned Tournament MVP honors after scoring both goals in the championship game, while King was named National Coach of the Year, solidifying one of the most remarkable seasons in collegiate soccer history.
