KENNESAW, Ga. – Brittany Moore, a four-year member of the Kennesaw State University softball team and a 2012 graduate, is the first recipient of the Owls of Excellence Award, a newly instituted honor initiated by the Department of Athletics.
The Owls of Excellence Award was formed to recognize Kennesaw State student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport, in the classroom, and provide service to the community. Each recipient will be featured on the Department of Athletics’ website, www.KSUOwls.com.
Moore was selected the first-ever recipient following a four-year career in which she helped the Owls claim their second Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season championship, and advance to the conference tournament title game in 2012, while also earning A-Sun scholar award honors.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native graduated with a degree in biology and was one of seven students to earn a scholarship in Kennesaw State’s first integrative biology master’s program that begins this fall. Moore is one six of students that received a teaching assistantship where she will help teach two general biology courses.
Intent on eventually earning a doctorate in communications in animals, Moore recently interned at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. She also volunteered at the aquarium where she assisted in the study of conservation issues and how environmental activities affect animal and marine life.
Moore, along with the Kennesaw State softball team, provides community service by taking part in the annual Lexi’s Night, a fundraising event named after Lexi Kaiser, an eight-year old girl who was born with cerebral palsy. Each year the Owls softball team picks one game that is used to raise funds for The Alexis Kaiser Foundation.
"It is always a great experience and seeing the impact it has on the recipients is something really special," Moore said.
