Kennesaw State softball senior Abbey Mixon has been named the next recipient of the Owls of Excellence Award, a first-year honor instituted this fall by the Department of Athletics.
The Owls of Excellence Award was formed to recognize Kennesaw State student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport, in the classroom, and provide service to the community. A different student-athlete will be honored and featured monthly on the Department of Athletics’ website, KSUOwls.com.
Mixon, a four-year member of the softball team, leads by example with her academic commitment and her determination on the field. The Canton, Ga., native is heavily involved within the community, volunteering with several organizations including the Junior Owls Reading Program, Must Ministries, and Golden Soldiers. The Relay for Life Captain also participates yearly with the Alexis Kaiser Foundation and Lexi’s Night, an annual event hosted by the KSU softball team benefiting children with special needs.
Nominated for the 2013 Boy Scouts of America Peach of an Athlete Award, the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Team member was also on the 2011-12 President’s Honor Roll. The Early Childhood Education major owns a 3.4 GPA and is currently completing her student teaching this semester.
