KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State senior softball player Missy Perkowski has been named the recipient of the Owls of Excellence Award for the month of December, it was announced on Monday (Jan. 18).

The Owls of Excellence Award was instituted in August of 2012 and established to recognize Kennesaw State student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport, in the classroom, and provide service to the community. A different student-athlete is honored and featured monthly on the Department of Athletics' website, KSUOwls.com.
 
A three-year starter for the Owls, Perkowski posted a 4.0 grade-point average during the fall semester and has an overall GPA of 3.61 while majoring in exercise science. Following her junior campaign, she was named an All-America Scholar-Athlete by the National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (NFCA) for the 2014-15 academic year.
 
In addition to assuming the role as the Student-Athlete Advisory Council's (SAAC) secretary, Perkowski is active with community service projects, serving as coordinator for the Golden Soldiers fall event, coordinating a Canned Food Drive, serving lunch to the homeless community through the Must Ministries program, and participating in Operation Christmas Child and Girls Inc Fun Friday.
 
On the field, Perkowski has been a valuable contributor for the Owls. She made 49 starts at third base in 2015 and posted a .224 overall average with 30 hits, including seven doubles and a triple, scored 17 runs, and tallied 14 RBIs and 39 total bases. Perkowski started all 20 Atlantic Sun Conference games and recorded a .246 average with 15 hits, eight runs scored, six RBIs and four doubles.
 
Perkowski and the Kennesaw State softball team opens its 2016 season on Feb. 12 when it hosts the KSU Kickoff Classic at Bailey Park.
