KENNESAW, Ga. – Down 10-6 with eight minutes left in the third quarter, Kennesaw State rallied with eight goals over a 10-minute stretch to claim a 16-14 victory over Wofford in women's college lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon from Fifth Third Stadium. This was the fifth all-time win for KSU in the seven-game series with Wofford, while also avenging last year's setback in Spartanburg.
KEY PLAYERS: Senior attacker
Alyssa Angelo shined with four goals and four assists for a team-high eight points, while junior
Shannon Harrington added a team-high five goals. Freshman
Marleigh Belinfanti meanwhile posted two goals and with two assists.
THE RUNDOWN: Angelo scored the game's first two goals as KSU went up 4-0. Wofford then found its offense, posting 10 of the next 12 goals of the game. That both tied the game at 6-6 at the half while the final four goals make it a 10-6 lead for the visitors with 8:33 on the clock in the third. Harrington then exploded for three goals just 94 seconds apart, including her third that came just six seconds after her second tally of the quarter, while a shot from Belinfanti rolled over the goaline just as the third quarter horn sounded to bring KSU within 11-10. After Wofford scored the first goal of the fourth to go back up two, goals from
Cohen Ridenour, Harrington, and a pair from Angelo put the Owls up 14-12. After Wofford scored with 5:58 to close within one,
Sydney Bumstead scored the clinching goal at 4:22 for a 15-13 advantage.
NOTES
-KSU won despite Wofford holding a 32-25 edge on shots.
-The Owls did finish with 10 saves in the game, seven coming from
Mia Nardi.
-Angelo finished with a game-high 10 draw controls, helping the Owls to a 17-16 advantage.
-KSU was an efficient 4-of-7 on free-position shots, while Wofford was just 1-of-3.
