ATLANTA – Production through the middle innings sent Georgia Tech (11-2, 0-0 ACC) past Kennesaw State (5-9, 0-0 CUSA) 11-4, in Tuesday night's game on The Flats.
How It Happened
Georgia Tech struck first with two runs scored in the home half of the first inning.
After a quiet opening inning, Kennesaw State's bats caught fire in the second stanza. A one-out single through the right side from
Jackson Chirello began a four-run inning for the Owls.
Catcher
Aaron Posey lined a double down the right field line, allowing Chirello to collect his first run of the season, scoring from first base.
Shamaar McDuffie took an inside fastball and dribbled a single through the right side of the infield to score Posey from second base. McDuffie advanced to second via a throwing error from right field.
Chris Cole also took to right field as he yanked a triple down the right line, scoring McDuffie and creating his second triple of the season. The final run of the inning crossed after the Georgia Tech shortstop allowed a groundball from
Wesley Alig to slip under his glove and into the outfield, scoring Cole. Four consecutive base knocks gave the Owls a two-run lead over Yellow Jackets going into the home half of the second inning.
With runners on the corners, a balk was called on Kennesaw State, scoring a run for GT. Two pitches later, the Yellow Jackets flared a single into center field, tying the game at 4-4 in the third inning.
Tech regained the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run shot to right-central, boosting them to a 6-4 total. They then entered double digits with a five-run sixth inning, extending the advantage to 11-4.
The Yellow Jackets advanced with an 11-4 final in Atlanta.

- Jackson Chirello made his long-awaited season debut after returning from injury. He collected a base hit and a run.
- Cole's triple have come against both in-state power four schools (No. 8 Georgia & Georgia Tech).
- Anderson extended his reached-base streak to 13 games with a single in the fifth inning.
- Three Owls tallied two-hit games (Anderson, Suto & Posey).
- Landon Tate entered in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter, zipping his first career hit through the middle.
