LEXINGTON – Aaron Posey had a career day at the plate with three hits and five RBI to help Kennesaw State baseball defeat No. 25 Kentucky by a score of 10-2 Saturday afternoon inside Kentucky Proud Park. The victory gives the Owls (9-6) the series win over the Wildcats (12-3) as they aim for the series sweep in tomorrow's finale.
With today's results, Kennesaw State has now posted three top-25 wins in the team's first 15 games of the season.
On the mound, Blake Aita (1-0) worked a career-high six innings and earned his first win of the season. The sophomore allowed one unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Tyler Franks was the first arm out of the pen and tossed 1.2 innings. The left-hander gave up one run and had two strikeouts.
Nolan Sliver closed things out with 1.1 innings of scoreless work. The sophomore punched out one on the afternoon.
Offensively, Kennesaw State collected 11 hits. Posey led the day with three and was joined by Brayden Eidson, Isaac Bouton and Spencer Hanson in the multi-hit category. Six-of-nine starters recorded base knocks in the contest.
Eidson was 2-for-5 with a walk out of the leadoff spot in the lineup. He also scored once and drove in two.
Bouton produced a 2-for-5 day with a double and RBI. He also scored twice in the win.
Hanson also went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and run scored.
Other notables included Nick Hassan (1-for-4, run scored) and Jamarie Brooks (1-for-1 with four walks and two runs scored).
KSU used a four-run first to jump ahead 4-0. Eidson, Hassan and Bouton started the game with three-straight singles before Cash worked a walk. Brooks drew a bases-loaded walk and Posey singled to bring in the final run of the frame.
Bouton doubled in the second and came around to score on an error by the Kentucky shortstop to give Kennesaw State a 5-0 lead.
The Wildcats scored once in the second, but KSU answered with a run of its own. Brooks singled then stole second before Posey laced a ground ball up the middle to give the Owls a 6-1 advantage.
Kennesaw State broke the game open with four runs in the fifth courtesy of three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. Base knocks from Posey and Eidson brought in two runs apiece to put KSU up, 10-1.
The Wildcats scored one run in the eighth to make it a 10-2 ballgame which held as the final.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action tomorrow as it aims for the series sweep at No. 25 Kentucky. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on SEC Network+.
