LEXINGTON – Kennesaw State baseball fell short of the series sweep over No. 25 Kentucky with a 5-2 loss Sunday afternoon inside Kentucky Proud Park. The Owls (9-7) are back in action Tuesday with a trip to in-state foe Georgia Southern. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at J. I. Clements Stadium.
Smith Pinson made his fourth start and threw six innings. The right-hander allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with six strikeouts. Pinson has pitched at least six innings in three-of-four starts this season.
Brayden Eidson threw the seventh and worked a scoreless frame. The senior allowed zero runs on one hit in relief.
Tanner Franklin pitched the eighth and allowed one run.
Offensively, the Owls had five hits. Brayden Eidson, Zac Corbin, Isaac Bouton, Jackson Chirello and Aaron Posey all recorded base knocks. Bouton and Chirello each doubled in the contest.
Kentucky took its first lead of the series with one run in the first.
KSU answered in the third and tied the score when Eidson lifted a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Chris Cole.
The Wildcats added three in the fourth to move ahead, 4-1.
Kennesaw State trimmed the lead to two in the eighth when Bouton laced a two-out double off the wall that brought in Eidson.
Kentucky added on with a run in the bottom half to move its lead to 5-2, which held as the final.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action Tuesday as it continues its road trip at Georgia Southern. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. inside J. I. Clements Stadium and will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
