KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse jumped out to a 9-2 first half lead, and rode the outstanding play of Julia Weiss and Erinn Crowe who combined for a school-record in the goal to claim a 16-13 victory over Rider on Friday afternoon at Fifth Third Stadium. The Owls improved to 5-3 on the season, while the Broncos dropped to 6-2.

RECORD-BREAKING OWLS: Weiss and Crowe were outstanding all game long as the two were a wall in the goal, combining for a new school record 19 team saves. That included eight saves by Weiss in the opening 30 minutes, while Crowe came in at halftime and stopped 11 shots.

KEY PLAYERS: A trio of players paced the Owls on offense, led by Hannah Davis's five-point day (four goals, one assist). Caroline Farley also added four goals in the win, while Hannah Barth notched three goals and a pair of assists for five points.

THE RUNDOWN: Goals from Barth, Farley (two) and Davis gave KSU a quick 4-0 lead. After the Broncos got on the scoreboard, the Owls responded with a 5-1 run over a seven-minute span. A score from Davis made the score 9-2, as KSU's defensive allowed just two total scores over the first 18 minutes of the game. Rider didn't go away easily, scoring five unanswered to close within two, before goals from Mia MacKenzie and Davis to end the half put the Owls back up four. Twice Rider closed within three in the third quarter, but KSU answered both times, and used a 4-0 spurt to go up 16-9 with under ten minutes left in the game.

POSTGAME QUOTES
KSU HEAD COACH LAURA MANESS

"I thought we came out really really hard today, exactly how we wanted to, I'm super proud of the energy we showed. I thought we did a good job of dealing with some man-down situations to close out the game. Our card situation was working against us, but our defenders were undeterred by that and our goals were making saves to keep the game going our way. Playing Rider, they have started off with a really good record this year and they have a lot of transfers with game experience, so we knew they would come out super aggressive. I thought this was a really good test for us, especially after being off for two weeks. Getting the win under our belts was huge in terms of getting us ready for the rest of March."

NOTES:
-
The 19 team saves broke the previous record of 17, set against Arizona State on Feb. 8, 2019.
-The Owls were able to claim the victory despite losing the draw control battle 19-9. Both teams did finish with 18 turnovers each.

NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will take off for the Motor City as they will face Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, March 19 in a 12 p.m. contest that will be streamed live on ESPN+.
