KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State could not overcome a rough second quarter against Mercer as the Owls lost their first home game of the season by a 25-7 margin to Mercer in women's college lacrosse action Wednesday night from Fifth Third Stadium. KSU dropped to 4-2 with the setback, while Mercer moved to 2-1 with the win.
KEY PLAYERS: Sophomore
Shannon Harrington paced the Owls with a hat trick. Four more Owls had one goal each.
THE RUNDOWN: It was a close game for the opening nine minutes, as the teams kept alternating goals, and
Hannah Davis' score at the 6:03 mark of the first quarter tied the game at 3-3. The Owls then went cold on offense, coming up with one goal over the next 32 minutes. Mercer meanwhile took advantage of several free position chances to score 18 goals over that stretch, going up 21-4 with under seven minutes left in the third.
POSTGAME QUOTES
KSU HEAD COACH LAURA MANESS
"The game overall did not go how we wanted, but I was happy to see a spark and a good energy level from our several of our younger players when given a chance in the second half, with plays like
Ansley Young coming up with caused turnovers and
Maya White with a free position goal. Getting experience and making plays like that can help make us a better team down the road."
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will be on the road in Nashville to face Vanderbilt on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. in a game streamed live on ESPN+.
