KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse came up short in its ASUN Conference opener on Friday afternoon, dropping a 17-7 contest to Coastal Carolina at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Three players finished with a pair of goals to place the Owls (Sharron Harrington,
Caroline Farley,
Zoe King), while
Hannah Davis added two assists.
Bailey Wilson led all players with 15 draw controls.
THE RUNDOWN: The Owls were limited on offense in the opening half, getting off just seven shots while the Chanticleers opened up a 9-1 edge at halftime. KSU came out on first to begin the third quarter, with four goals in a five-minute span. Back-to-back scores from
Zoe King completed the 4-0 run and brought KSU within 9-5 with 5:00 on the clock. Coastal responded quickly with a goal, part of an 8-1 run to put the game away.
QUOTABLE:
"I knew we were going to come into a tough conference game as Coastal has had a successful non-conference season, but we really pulled it together at halftime. We won the third quarter five to four, but we just got into that rut early on and couldn't get out of it.

"We had to make some defensive and offensive adjustments after the first half and they all worked. It just took us a little too long to fix them, but like I said we came out of halftime really strong and won that third quarter to put us back in a winnable match.

"I saw some good plays today while I also feel this was a breakout game for
Zoe King which was great. It was also a big day because
Bailey Wilson crossed the 100 draw controls for the season, so those two things definitely stood out to me."

NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls continue their three-game homestand to open the ASUN slate with a Thursday, April 4 game against Jacksonville at 3 pm.
