KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse faced a tough challenge on Thursday, holding Jacksonville to eight first half goals before eventually falling 17-4 to the preseason favorites in an ASUN contest at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The 17 goals did mark the fewest the Owls have given up against JU in the 11-game series.
KEY PLAYERS: Hannah Barth,
Jaxsyn Schonewille,
Caroline Farley and
Hannah Davis all scored for KSU.
THE RUNDOWN: The Owls fell behind 4-0 10 minutes into the contest, but then held Jacksonville to just one goal over the next 15 minutes. Goals from Farley and Davis would bring KSU within three at 5-2 with 10:59 on the clock in the second quarter. JU then scored three goals in a 90-second burst for an 8-2 lead going into halftime, and then scored five of the six goals in the third quarter.
QUOTABLE:
"We really wanted to come out hard and focus on making those first stops, which we did. We had two defensive stops right out the gate, which was beneficial. We knew Jacksonville was going to be tough, however, I was pretty happy with how we hung with them for a while. In previous years, they've been able to run on us quickly in the beginning of the game, but this year we kept them within striking distance through the first half. I was happy with the fight that they showed early on."
- KSU Head Coach Laura Maness
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday, April 8, with an 11 am contest against Stetson.
