KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse played host Mercer tight for the first 30 minutes, but a big second-half run by Bears sent the Owls to a 20-9 setback on the road Sunday afternoon from Five Star Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Caroline Farley paced the Owls with three goals for the afternoon. Hannah Barth had a team-high four points thanks to two goals and two assists.
THE RUNDOWN: Mercer jumped out to a 3-0 edge, until the Owls came back with a pair of goals from Shannon Harrington and Hannah Davis to make it a one-score game. KSU again made it a one-goal contest after two unanswered scores from Farley and Jaxsyn Schonewille made the score 6-5 at the 7:20 mark of the second quarter. The Owls would go into halftime down 8-6, but the Bears then took control in the third quarter, outscoring KSU 7-1 over the 15 minutes. KSU was held without a goal for the first 10 minutes of the second half, and after Farley's second goal, the Owls would not score again until the final four minutes. Mercer posted eight straight to put the game away.
QUOTABLE:
"We played a very solid first half of lacrosse. Our defensive efforts were solid, as was our goaltending. Offensively we handled pressure well and converted at a much better rate than our last game. I'm Proud of the team coming out with our best foot forward after having so many games in a row and fighting through the bumps and bruises along the way. Having a bit of time off will get us fully prepared for conference play. -KSU Head Coach Laura Maness
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls are off until Friday, March 31, when they host their ASUN opener against Coastal Carolina at 12 pm at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
