KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse could not hold off a furious fourth quarter Wofford rally, as the Terriers scored the game's final goal with 18 seconds left to steal a victory over the Owls on Saturday afternoon from Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Junior midfielder
Caroline Farley doubled her previous career-high with a game-high six goals in the contest, while freshman
Shannon Harrington continued her hot run this season with a hat trick.
Julia Weiss also had a strong first half in the net, allowing just five goals while recording four saves.
Mia MacKenzie dished out five assists to pace the Owls on the afternoon.
THE RUNDOWN: It was a back-and-forth game in the first quarter, with Farley's third score tying the game at 4-4. She then scored two of KSU's three straight games to end the second quarter that broke a tie and gave the Owls an 8-5 edge entering halftime. A 5-1 run for KSU to end the third quarter, which included a pair of goals from Harrington, made the score 14-9 for KSU.
Hannah Barth opened the fourth with a score, but that was the last goal in the game for KSU. Wofford closed out the game with seven unanswered goals, including the game-winning with 18 seconds on the clock. Three of the seven goals came on man-up situations for the Terries.
QUOTABLE:
"I think we came out really hard today, which is something we wanted to focus on. We wanted to score first and we did that. we really wanted to set the pace and I think we did that for most of the game. In the fourth quarter, that's where we started to get a little anxious. We made some uncharacteristic mistakes that put Wofford in some man-up situations and that really shifted the momentum.
"We're young, but I think we are working really hard. We need to work on closing these games out and not play into the hands of the team that is in desperation. We had momentum for a while, we just need to hang on to it."
"Things that we liked today, we had really exceptional play by
Caroline Farley really setting the pace offensively, while winning the draw controls 21-14 is really solid.
"Now we're going to regroup and try to figure out how to close games because we have two good ones coming up next week."

NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls' homestand continues with a Wednesday, March 15 contest against Manhattan at 12 pm at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
