KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse rallied in the fourth quarter, but came up short against Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Senior attack
Natalie Welch lead the Owls in scoring with two goals and one assist, while
Hannah Davis recorded two goals, both on free-position attempts. Erin Crowe also had a strong second half, allowing only two goals and recording two saves.
THE RUNDOWN: The Jaspers took the lead after scoring the first goal of the game early in the first quarter, but Davis scored on a free-position attempt to bring the Owls back into the game. The Owls fought through the second quarter but went into the half down 8-4. A 3-1 run in the third quarter, including another free-position goal from Davis, set the Owls up with a two-point deficit in the final quarter. Welch scored early in the fourth to bring the deficit to one point, but Manhattan scored a last-minute goal to solidify a 10-8 win.
QUOTABLE:
"Today our point of emphasis was to make sure we were composed and making sure we didn't get into card trouble, and I feel like our team rose to the occasion and limited the card fouls. We really put ourselves in a great position to win the game by limiting those cards."
"I thought we played good team defense. Our goal from the defensive side entering the game was to hold them [Manhattan] to 10 goals or less, and we met that challenge."
"Offensively, we won the draw controls again and were able to take a ton of shooting opportunities. The opportunities were there for us to win today, we just need to make sure we're burying our shots."
"I think the team effort was really solid. We just have some minor adjustments, and we will be able to get that next win."
