KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse played Furman tough through four quarters but came up short in overtime 8-7 against the Paladins on Friday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Hannah Barth and Jaxsyn Schonewille led the Owls in scoring, both with two goals each. Julia Weiss and Erin Crowe shared time inside the goal, with Weiss recording seven saves in the first half.
THE RUNDOWN: Furman took a 4-0 advantage over the Owls in the opening quarter of the game, but the Owls fought back in the second quarter to close the gap to two. After a back-to-back third quarter, the Owls entered the final quarter tailing by one. An early fourth quarter goal from Barth and a free-position goal from Shannon Harrington tied the contest, but the Paladins scored on a free position attempt in overtime to clinch an 8-7 victory.
QUOTABLE:
"This is our first overtime game of the year and we're getting inches closer each game. We're putting ourselves in a really competitive situation to win games."
"The team had a really good defensive day today. Holding a team to seven goals in regulation speaks volumes to the defensive effort. We're winning the ground ball and draw control game and we just need to let our shots start flowing."
"I think the hustle plays mattered today, even on a sloppy day, and I'm proud of the team effort. We're inches closer to finding a way to win, and we're hoping to get this win over Mercer before going into conference play." -KSU Head Coach Laura Maness.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls head to Macon on Sunday for an afternoon match up against the Mercer Bears at 4 pm.
