JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State couldn't keep up with the scoring pace from Jacksonville in the first quarter, as the 21
st-ranked Dolphins (8-3, 2-0 ASUN) jumped out to an 8-1 lead on the way to snapping KSU's five-game win streak with a 23-6 victory in ASUN women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Rock Stadium. There was a silver lining to the loss for the Owls (9-5, 1-1 ASUN) though, as senior midfielder
Siena Gore scored a team-high three goals in the contest to become just the fourth player in NCAA history (Division I level) to score 300 goals in their career.
KEY PLAYER: Gore, who came into the contest ranked first in the nation in goals, goals per game and total points, found herself the focus of the Dolphin defense the entire afternoon. She still managed to find the back of the net three times in the contest, with her third goal coming off a free position shot at the 9:25 mark of the third quarter. That gave her 300 in her stellar career at Kennesaw State, placing her in very rare company in the NCAA record book. She also added one assist in the game for four total points.
THE RUNDOWN: Gore's first goal of the game came just under four minutes into the contest and knotted the score at 1-1. JU took the momentum back just 13 seconds later with a score that started a run of eight unanswered goals. Gore stopped the run with a goal at the 12:38 mark of the second quarter, and
Chesslyn Lamar followed a minute later with her first score to bring KSU within 9-3 with 11:29 to play in the opening half.
JU answered with the next four scores on the way to a 13-4 halftime edge. The Dolphins outscored KSU 6-2 in the third quarter, and 6-0 in the fourth.
QUOTEABLE: "Today was a tough battle. We will use this game as an opportunity to grow and prepare for the rest of our conference schedule." -
KSU head coach Laura Maness.
