KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Siena Gore broke her own school single-season scoring record, while the Owls set a new school mark for fewest goals allowed in a game in Saturday's 21-2 victory over Delaware State in ASUN women's lacrosse action from Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The win improved the Owls to 10-5 on the season and 2-1 in league action.
KEY PLAYER:Â Gore continued her hold on the national scoring lead thanks to a six-goal performance. She entered the game with a three-goal advantage over the rest of the nation, and her 73 goals in 2022 tops her previous school record of 70, set in 2018. That gives her the top four spots in school history, as she scored 68 in 2019 for third place and 67 in 2021 for fourth overall. Â
THE RUNDOWN:Â The game was tied five minutes in after Delaware State scored on a man-up situation. The was the closest the game would be the rest of the way. Gore scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to spark a 6-0 Owl run. The Hornets did post the final goal of the quarter to cut the margin to 7-2. However, that was also the final score of the afternoon for DSU. KSU scored six unanswered in the second, five in the third and three more in the final quarter for the eventual 19-goal victory. Â
Â
QUOTEABLE:Â "Today was really a good team effort. We focused this week on staying locked in on both sides of the ball, both offensively and defensively. We rose to the occasion today and played a complete game on both sides of the field. We wanted to make sure we got back to our best lacrosse as we get ready to go on the road for a conference game at Coastal Carolina next week, we want to have that momentum going into a tough road contest." -
KSU head coach Laura Maness.
