KSU Box Score at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Four unanswered goals midway through the second quarter gave Kennesaw State the lead for good as KSU claimed its first-ever win over Coastal Carolina by a 16-14 score in ASUN women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon from Brooks Stadium. Thanks to the victory, which broke a nine-game losing streak to the Chanticleers, KSU improved to 11-5 overall for the season and are now tied for second place in the league at 3-1.
KEY PLAYER:Â Senior
Chesslyn Lamar scored the Owls' first two scores on the way to a career-high five for the day, while classmate
Siena Gore added four goals and a career-high 15 draw controls. In the net was
Julia Weiss, who allowed eight goals in the first half but also collected 12 saves.
Errin Crowe played the second and posted four saves with six goals allowed.
THE RUNDOWN:Â It was a close contest in the first quarter. The game was tied three times before Gore put the Owls up 4-3 to end the opening 15 minutes. The Chanticleers then scored 16 seconds into the second quarter to again knot the game at 4-4. KSU would answer with a game-changing 4-0 run, kicked off by Gore's third goal of the afternoon. Four different players scored during the run, with
McKenzie Jackson giving the Owls an 8-4 advantage. KSU would take a 10-7 lead into the halftime break.
Coastal managed to close within two several times in the second half. The first off the opening goal of the second half, which was followed by three straight Owl goals. It was a two-goal game again at 14-12, 15-13 and 16-14 with 4:02 left. KSU managed to run down two shot clocks over the rest of the game, allowing just one total shot in the final four minutes to claim the road victory.
QUOTEABLE:Â "We had a great team effort today. Defensively both goalies made big plays, and defenders came up with critical ground balls. Our draws unit was dominate all game as well. Offensively several girls contributed big, with a lot of our goals assisted today. Chesslyn and Siena both had great offensive days, and I am just proud of the team's effort all over." -

NOTES
-Gore moved her career goal total to 310, fourth highest all-time in NCAA history.

Jaxsyn Schonewille and Jackson both notched multi-goal games with two each. The other scoring on the day came from
Natalie Welch,
Bailey Wilson and
Mia MacKenzie.
-Wilson had a team-high two assists for KSU.
-KSU held a 43-35 edge on shots, and 32-30 on shots on goal.
-The Owls were forced into 14 turnovers to just six for Coastal. However, the Owls dominated the circle, finishing with a 23-11 edge on draw controls.

NEXT TIME OUT:Â The Owls have a showdown for the second seed in the 2022 ASUN tournament, as KSU will host Liberty for a Senior Day contest on Saturday, April 30 at 12 pm at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
