WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kennesaw State made quick work of its opponent on Tuesday afternoon, scoring the first nine goals of the game on the way to a 23-2 victory over Howard in women's college lacrosse action at Greene Stadium. Fourteen total players all finished with at least one goal in the victory for the Owls, who improved to 5-4 on the season.
KEY PLAYERS: While
Siena Gore notched four goals to pace the Owls, five more players all had multi-score days for KSU.
Caroline Farley recorded her first hat trick of the season with three goals along with an assist, while
Natalie Welch,
Abbey Behn,
Chesslyn Lamar and
Hannah Barth all finished with two goals each.
THE RUNDOWN: Gore led the scoring off with a goal 81 seconds after the start, and that was the only score for the first six minutes of the contest. However, a goal by
Mia MacKenzie opened the floodgates for the Owls, as they scored three times in a 73-second stretch, part of a six-goal run to end the quarter for a 7-0 lead. The Owls then scored the first two of the second quarter before Howard got on the board with its first goal. KSU simply responded with 10 unanswered goals over the rest of the second quarter and the third, taking a 19-1 advantage into the final 15 minutes.
QUOTEABLE: "I think we had a great team effort today. We had 14 girls score and several goals assisted as well which I was happy to see. Defensively we did a good job shutting down their top players and limiting their opportunities." -

NOTES
-KSU's 23 goals were tied for the fifth-most in a game in school history, while its 12 assists are the fifth-most all-time. The Owls' 34 points on the afternoon also rank fourth all-time in the record book.
-Julie Weiss and
Errin Crowe both played a half in the net and each allowed one goal, while Crowe was credited with four saves.
-KSU held a 38-8 edge on shots, 33-6 on shots on goal, as well as a 19-8 advantage on ground balls and 15-14 in draw controls.
