Game NotesSocial Media: Twitter | Facebook Game PreviewFor the third time in four years, the Owls will begin their season against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vanderbilt was the first team that Kennesaw State played against as a Division I program back in 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Commodores hold a 3-0 edge in the series.
Kennesaw State Team Notes• The Owls are coming off of their best season in their short history as they accumulated five wins and landed the five seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
• Preseason wise, the Owls were picked to finish sixth in the A-Sun this season, one point behind the Stetson Hatters.
•
Sydney Farwick and
Laura Jordan both landed on the Preseason A-Sun All-Conference Team.
• Last season, the Owls had three team members named second team All Atlantic Sun members. They were Farwick, Jordan and
Taylor McGhee. Jordan was also named to the All-Freshman team.
• Farwick led KSU a year ago with 55 points scoring 44 goals and dishing out 11 assists. The 55 points and 44 goals were both school records.
• McGhee finished second on the team in goals last season, scoring 31 and had 38 points for the season. She was very efficient on free position attempts, tying for tying for first in the A-Sun scoring on 14 of 22 attempts averaging 0.78 per game.
• McGhee was also recognized for her hard work off the field in the weight room after last season as she was named an All-American by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and EAS Sports Nutrition.
• On the defensive end, Jordan really made a difference as a freshman. She led the team with 42 ground balls and caused 28 turnovers. The 1.44 turnovers she caused per game was tied for third in the A-Sun. She also finished second on the team winning 34 draw controls.
• In 2015, the Owls scored 29 more goals than they did in 2014 and the scoring was spread out more across the team. Last season, four more players scored goals for KSU than in 2014.
•After missing last season with a knee injury,
Olivia Hokanson will return to the field for the Owls. Her freshman season she led Kennesaw State with 43 goals and was named to the A-Sun All-Freshmen team.
• KSU has 11 upper classmen this season and 19 returners overall. The team welcomes nine freshmen to the roster.
• The Owls will have nine home games this season at Fifth Third Bank Stadium and will host the 2016 Atlantic Sun Lacrosse Championship from May 4-8.
Next UpKSU will have four home games to start the season and the next on will be against Davidson on Saturday, February 20 at 5 p.m.
