NEW ORLEANS,La- Five Kennesaw State track and field athletes
Martina Cernochova,
Jordan Gray,
Shermaine Pinkard,
Alicia Whittle, and
Rasmus Rooks were named All-Academic Individuals the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coache's Association (USTFCCCA) announced this week. The women's team earned All-Academic Team honors as well.
Cernochova was a part of the 4x100m relay team that qualified for the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a time of 44.94.
Gray won the pentathlon at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships scoring 3704 points.
Pinkard threw a school-record throw of 18.69m in the weight throw at the Scarlet and White Classic.
Whittle qualified for the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m after collecting wins in the 100m and 200m dash at the A-Sun Championships.
Rooks finished the indoor season ranked in the top-96 overall in both the 100m and long jump.
The honor received by both athletes was not only for their performance on the track but also in the classroom. Rooks and Whittle both collected 4.0 GPA while Cernochova, Gray and Pinkard each earned over a 3.25 GPA
The women's team earned All-Academic Team Honors by collecting a 3.04 GPA as a team for the 2015 spring semester.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the team must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester during that season.
