MTRACK: Owls Complete Season at the NCAA Championships

Mulder Earns All-American Honors

Decathlon Results

Eugene, Or. –
Joshua Mulder represented the Kennesaw State Track and Field teams in the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field on Thursday June 11.

"I'm very pleased that it's becoming an expectation for our team to end the season at the NCAA championship, crowning All-Americans," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth said. "The decathlon is such a demanding event that it's difficult just to finish. 1 athlete fouled out, 3 no heighted, and 2 or 3 dropped out due to injury. Mulder didn't have a record performance but he was steady and effective finishing 3 places higher than ranked coming in. He's been diligent all year so I'm very pleased to see good results for him!"

Mulder, competed in the decathlon, competed in the final five events on Thursday. He would open the day with a time of 14.53 in the 110m hurdles which was good for second overall and the second fastest in school decathlon history. A throw of 35.98m (118'0) in the discus was good for the sixth best in school history in the decathlon. After a brief break, Mulder would come back and leap 4.50m (14'09.00) in the pole vault which tied for fourth best in school decathlon history and eighth overall in the event. A throw of 44.76m  (146'10) in the javelin was good enough for sixth best in school history. He would conclude the decathlon, running a time of 4:39.86 in the 1500m. He would finish with 7402 points which is the second best point total in school history. With a 14th place finish, Mulder earned second team All-American honors.

"All of us are ready for some well-deserved rest, but at the same time already excited for next year," Eggerth said. "Seeing areas that we can improve in to take us to an even higher level is very motivating. Very soon this summer we'll return our focus to the process of achieving excellence. Between the returning athletes and new ones coming in I would expect to have about 20 athletes make the NCAA championship and perhaps 10+ make the finals."
