LAX: Owls Announce 2016 Schedule

KSU Hosts the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship

SCHEDULE

KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team has released its 2016 schedule, head coach Kristina Llanes announced on Tuesday, October 13.

The Owls will have 15 games with eight of those at home in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Out of the eight non-conference games scheduled, five of them are familiar opponents as KSU has played them at least one time in the program's first three seasons.

"As we aim to continue our growth and forward momentum as a program, putting together a competitive non-conference schedule was extremely important," Llanes said. "We have kept some familiar teams on the schedule in order to gauge the progress from season's past, while adding new programs (such as Siena) to get a fresh look against some other systems."

For the third time in four seasons, the Owls first game is against Vanderbilt on February 7. Following Vandy, the Owls take on Davidson, Siena and Longwood all at home in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The next three games will be on the road against Gardner Webb on March 9, Coastal Carolina on March 13 and startup program Radford on March 20.

After wrapping up non-conference play against St. Mary's (CA), the Owls begin conference play with the three-time A-Sun Champion Jacksonville Dolphins in Fifth Third Bank Stadium on April 1. Two days later, KSU welcomes Stetson to Kennesaw, before hitting the road to face Mercer, Howard and Old Dominion.

On April 22 and 24, the Owls host the newest member in the A-Sun in Central Michigan before having Senior Day against Detroit.

The regular season ends for the Owls on April 27 in Greenville, South Carolina against Furman.

"The A-Sun is still a relatively young conference," Llanes said. "With the addition of a well supported program like Central Michigan, I believe that there are opportunities for any of the nine programs to rise to the top. It will be an exciting conference season, and I foresee that it will be a tight race in April leading up to Championship Weekend."

For the first time, Kennesaw State will be hosting the 2016 A-Sun Tournament at Fifth Third Bank Stadium from May 3-May 7.

"It is an honor to host the A-Sun tournament here at Kennesaw State," Llanes said. "I have no doubt that it will be an exceptional experience for all involved, and we look forward to the opportunity to play at home."
