CONWAY, S.C. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse fell 17-5 on the road against Coastal Carolina on Wednesday as the Owls close out the regular season 8-9 and 3-5 in ASUN play.
KEY PLAYERS: Caleigh Shore recorded a hat trick to lead the Owls on offense, with
Addelyn Maxwell and
Natalie Charyak also finding the back of the net. On defense,
Lauren Dobbs continued her record-breaking season with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
THE RUNDOWN: After Coastal Carolina opened the scoring with its first goal,
Caleigh Shore evened the score at 1-1 with a perfectly placed free-position goal. The Chanticleers then scored three consecutive goals to increase its lead to 4-1. The Owls closed out the first quarter strong with Shore's second goal of the day to cut the lead to 4-2 after the first 15.
The second quarter saw the defensive battle escalate in the first few minutes of the quarter before Coastal went on a five-goal run to enter halftime with a 9-2 lead. The Owls answered the run after halftime with Shore's third goal of the day to bring the lead down to 9-3. The Chanticleers proceeded to close out the third quarter on another five-goal run, taking a 14-3 advantage into the fourth quarter. Maxwell got on the board on the opening possession of the fourth quarter for her fifth goal of the season. Two more Chanticleer goals later, the Owls scored their fifth and final goal of the day, courtesy of
Natalie Charyak on a free-position attempt. Coastal Carolina scored its last goal in the closing seconds, finishing out a 17-5 victory.

NOTES
- Dobbs' two caused turnovers pushed her career total to 92, surpassing Laura Jordan for the program record for caused turnovers in a career.
- Dobbs also sits at 46 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers on the season, both the most in the ASUN this season.
- Shore recorded her sixth game this season with a hat trick.
- Goalkeeper Cybella Smith had her fifth game with 10 or more saves and now has 106 on the season, the fourth most in a single-season in program history.
NEXT TIME OUT: Kennesaw State awaits the result of Jacksonville vs. Stetson to determine the final seed in the ASUN championship. A Jacksonville win would make the Owls the sixth seed and a rematch against the third seed Liberty in the first round of the ASUN championship on Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m.
