Philadelphia, PA – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse took down the La Salle Explorers 15-9 on Wednesday evening to get its fourth straight win. That improved the Owls to 5-3 on the season, already tying the win total from each of the past two seasons.
Key Players: Caleigh Shore recorded a new career-high with five goals. Lexi Tinker also recorded five goals against the Explorers. Marleigh Belinfanti added three goals to the board and Lavona Watkins posted a pair of scores. Goalie Cybella Smith collected a total of seven saves to defend the net before leaving the contest with the Owls up 14-3.
The Rundown: Watkins got the Owls an early lead with a goal less than a minute into the first quarter.That was followed by Tinker and Belinfanti barely two minutes later. Shore upped the score to 4-0, not even four minutes into the game. She then came back in the last three minutes with another score, followed by Belinfanti and Tinker to end the first quarter with a 7-2 edge for KSU. The Owl's defense didn't let up in the second quarter, posting a shutout in the second 15 minutes, and KSU would take an8-2 lead into the halftime break.
Watkins scored her second goal of the game four minutes into the third to set the pace after halftime. Tinker scored a hat trick to widen the gap to 10-3, while Shore added back-to-back goals to bring the score to 12-3. Tinker recorded the last goal of the third quarter for a 10-goal advantage, and then scored the first of the fourth for a commanding 14-3 advantage for KSU.
Postgame Quote from Head Coach Laura Maness: "I thought the team played incredibly well and started out so strong to set the tone. Offensively our unit came out firing right away – I'm so proud of them. Defensively, our team handled hard situations such as cards really well. Lastly, our draw unit was outright dominant. Very proud of the overall effort."
