RICHMOND, Va. — Kennesaw State men's tennis earned a third consecutive win with a 4-1 defeat of VCU on Sunday afternoon at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Owls have now won three straight matches for the first time since April 7-14, 2024.
"This was a great win for the program today in some tricky conditions," said KSU associate head coach
Simon Pritchard. "The guys did a great job of carrying the momentum from a big doubles point into singles."
Ben Hudson and
Dominic Ducariu beat VCU's Erwann Bouchet and Mats Bredschneijder 6-2 for a No. 1 doubles win. The Rams responded by taking court two, but
Xavi Ferrer and
Anthony Weingarten came up big for KSU on three, 7-6 (7-4), to secure the doubles point.
Despite having only four courts available for singles play, the Owls readily navigated the conditions to clinch the match with three singles wins.
Hudson and Weingarten rolled their doubles momentum into quick victories on courts one and three. Hudson defeated Nicolo Consonni 6-4, 6-3, and Weingarten overcame Gevorg Mnatsakanyan 6-2, 6-3.
"With only four courts to play on, it was huge for Ben and Anthony to get points on the board that fast," Pritchard said.
VCU scored its lone point of the day on court two, but its momentum proved brief, as Ducariu sealed the match for the Owls in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, on court four.
While their matches went unfinished, Ferrer and Walters both won their first sets, 6-2, 6-3, on courts six and five, respectively.
