KENNESAW, Ga. — Kennesaw State men's tennis won five of six singles matches on its way to the program's first-ever win over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon at Betty Siegel Courts.
"The first win in program history against Georgia State; it's a great day to be an Owl!" said KSU associate head coach
Simon Pritchard. "Georgia State started fast and played a good doubles point, but I thought we did a great job responding in singles. I was so impressed with how all six guys took ownership of their court and took care of business."
Nathan Walters and
Leon Peranovic gave the Owls an early doubles win, 6-4, on court one. The Panthers responded with wins of 6-4 and 7-5 on courts one and three, respectively.
KSU came back strong in singles play with wins from Walters, Peranovic,
Xavi Ferrer,
Ben Hudson and
Dominic Ducariu. Walters, Peranovic, Ferrer and Hudson each took their matches in straight sets.
Walters defeated Georgia State's Gustav Andersson 6-4, 6-2 on court five, while Peranovic duplicated the result against Arthur Attrill on court three. Ferrer took court six from Yuva Pavuluri 6-2, 6-3.
Hudson secured KSU's fourth point as he fended off Gabriele Datei 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) on court one.
Ducariu came back from a 4-6 first set to win on four with scores of 6-2 and 10-6 in the second and third sets.
The Panthers earned their second point of the day in a 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 Cem Atlamis win over
Anthony Weingarten on court two.
