ATHENS, Ga. – No. 9 Georgia (36-11, 12-9 SEC) kept the Owls (22-22, 12-6 CUSA) at bay as Kennesaw State dropped the 9-2 Tuesday midweek to the in-state foe.
How It Happened
Nate Andesron wasted no time yanking a frozen rope past the diving glove of the first baseman for a lead-off double.
Chris Cole then patiently waited for the right pitch to lay down an infield bunt single, moving Anderson to third. Coach Coe then put on the double steal attempt as Cole drew the attention of the infield, allowing Anderson to leg out the throw from the second baseman, putting KSU up one in the first.
The Bulldogs also didn't hesitate to answer with a run in the home half of the first.
After a two-out double down the left field line, UGA collected two runs in the second inning, jumping out to its first lead.
The Dawgs then scrapped another run in the bottom third inning, taking the 4-1 advantage.
Top-ranked Georgia replicated its production in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring one run in each frame and grabbing a five-run lead.
Kennesaw State answered the bell in the seventh stanza, snapping UGA's six unanswered runs. Shaamar McDuffie reached safely via the fielder's choice at first base, which was followed by a walk from Anderson. Cole took an outside pitch the opposite way, carrying into shallow left-center for an RBI single. The Owls went into the home half of the seventh in a four-run hole.
Three more runs came to fruition for the Bulldogs in the seventh, jolting to a 9-2 lead.
The Owls could not mount a comeback attempt, dropping the midweek to the top-ranked Bulldogs.
