KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse dropped a Senior Day contest to Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon to end the regular season.
KEY PLAYERS: Freshman
Lexi Tinker led the Owls with four goals, while
Shannon Harrington also finished with a hat trick off three goals. Senior
Alyssa Angelo scored one goal, and also posted one assist to give her 30 on the season, which set a new KSU single season record.
THE RUNDOWN: The Chanticleers used their early advantage on the draw circle to open up a 9-2 edge three minutes into the second quarter. Freshman
Marleigh Belinfanti sparked an Owl scoring burst with a shot through the Coastal goalkeeper, and that was followed by scores from Tinker and Harrington to bring KSU within 9-5 with 10:22 left in the first half. It was a 13-6 contest at the half, and after the teams each score three goals in the first half of the third quarter, Coastal went on a 5-1 burst for a 21-10 advantage.
POSTGAME QUOTES – HEAD COACH LAURA MANESS
"I think having a bye last week didn't help us coming into today, and we hoped that it being Senior Day would give us a spark, and there were moments where we were getting into the grove of things. But then Coastal had an answer every time we made a move. The day was highlighted by Alyssa setting a new school record, definitely some positives to build on next year. I think the seniors, if you look at the culmination of their work, not just today, they've put a lot of blood, sweat and tears the last four years on the field. They've made an impact, especially in mentoring our younger players and I feel they have left their legacy and our program is for the better in having them on the team."
