Owls Show Fight Through Five, Bulldogs Seal Series Finale

Kennesaw, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Owls matched the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs hit-for-hit through five innings on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Park, but couldn't break through in key moments, falling 6–0 in game three of the series.

Despite consistently putting runners aboard, the Owls were unable to cash in, while LA Tech capitalized on a pair of multi-run innings to create separation late.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, striking two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles.

Kennesaw State responded with pressure of its own in the bottom half when Jojo Johnson walked and Ana Gore singled in the first inning, but LA Tech's defense held strong.

La Tech continued their run in the third inning with a double dropping in left field gap for a 3-0 lead.

The Owls again put runners in scoring position in the fourth, following a single from Lexie Shaver and a two-out hit by Macie Howes putting runners on the corners, but stranded both runners.

The biggest blow came in the top of the seventh. Already trailing 3-0, the Owls saw their deficit double after a three-run homer that was launched over the wall to break the game open. KSU turned to Jenna Chase in relief, who worked out of a bases loaded jam.

The Owls threatened once more in the seventh after a double to right field by Caroline Shumeyko, but Louisiana Tech closed the door to complete the 6–0 shutout victory.

Quick Hits

  • Ana Gore extended her hitting streak to eight straight games, continuing her consistent presence at the plate.
  • Caroline Shumeyko delivered the Owls' lone extra-base hit with a sharp double to right field.
  • Lexie Shaver turned in another strong performance, going 2-for-3 without a strikeout, her second consecutive multi-hit game.
  • Ava Guzowski recorded a hit in every game of the series, proving to be a steady contributor against the Bulldogs.
  • Leah Jannakos held the Bulldogs in check, tossing four shutout frames.

On Deck

Kennesaw State will wrap up its home midweek slate with a showdown against Chattanooga on Wednesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. at Bailey Park.
