Jacksonville, Ala. – Kennesaw State came up short in the series opener against Jacksonville State on Friday evening at Jana McGinnis Field, falling 9-7 in a back-and-forth battle despite matching the Gamecocks with 10 hits.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead with a big second inning and continued to fight at the plate, but Jax State used a late surge to secure the win at home.

How It Happened

Kennesaw State wasted no time putting pressure on the Gamecocks, exploding with four runs in the second inning. Macie Howes got things started with a single. Another single and a defensive miscue by Jax State allowed the Owls to load the bases. Hannah Harvey delivered with an RBI single to center field, plating the first two runs of the game. Ava Guzowski kept the momentum going with a sharp RBI single up the middle, driving in a pair of runs to make it 4-0.

Jacksonville State answered right back in the bottom half of the second, using a pair of hits and a Kennesaw State miscue to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

After a quiet third inning, the Owls struck again in the fourth. Harvey continued her strong day at the plate with another RBI single, while Lexie Shaver followed with a two RBI double to push the lead to 7-2.

The Gamecocks kept battling, sending on to the yard in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 7-3. Jacksonville State then seized momentum in the fifth, erupting with four runs to tie the game at 7-7.

Jacksonville State took the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs and held off Kennesaw State in the final innings to secure the 9-7 victory.
