CONWAY, S.C. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse played Coastal Carolina even in the second half, but couldn't overcome the Chanticleer's strong first half as the Owls dropped their season finale, 17-7 on Saturday afternoon from Brooks Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS: Alyssa Angelo led the Owls with a pair of scores.
Julia Weiss meanwhile collected 11 saves and had a .421 save percentage in the net.
THE RUNDOWN: The Owls' couldn't match CCU's offensive at the start, as the Chants scored the first seven goals of the game, and led 8-1 at the first quarter.
Hannah Davis scored the Owls' first goal of the day on a wraparound, while
Shannon Harrington notched a goal in the second quarter but KSU would find themselves down 12-2 at the halftime break. The third quarter was a smoother effort on offense for KSU, as the team turned the ball over just once after having 11 in the first half. However, Coastal won all five draw controls in the third quarter to help them win the third 15 minutes 3-2. Both of the Owls' goals came from Angelo, including a shot at the third quarter buzzer. The fourth quarter was KSU's best, with a 9-5 edge on shots, and the Owls forced five turnovers while not turning it over once. That helped the Owls outscore the home team 3-2 to make the final deficit a 10-game contest.
POSTGAME QUOTES
"I thought our seniors put their best foot forward today. Highlighted by goals from Abbey, Zoe, and Mia. Both Errin (Crowe) and Julia made good saves, while
Hannah Barth and Caroline worked hard all over the field. The seniors will be missed next year, as we continue to grow KSU lacrosse forward each season."
