Softball Drops First Two Games in Kennesaw State Tournament

KENNESAW, Ga. – The first two games didn't go the Owls way in the Kennesaw State Tournament falling just short of Ole Miss (6-1) and ETSU (1-6) Friday night.

Game One Vs. Ole Miss (L, 3-1)
The Owls broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly from Ava Guzowski to center field scoring Stella Henry from third.

Spotlight Performances
Guzowski ended the game without a registered at-bat but a solid performance earning two walks, and RBI and a stolen base.

She tallied the first of three stolen bases for the Owls as Stella Henry and Kassidy Amerson-Fox swiped a bag each. The team had four through the first five games of the season.

Game Two Vs. ETSU (L, 9-6)
The Black and Gold were able to answer the early run of ETSU with both teams scoring one in the first inning. Henry scored off the second error of the day for the Buccaneers.

In the bottom of the third, the Owls caused chaos on the base paths with Ty Hardeman stealing her way to third base after reaching via the error. She was then brought in with a sac fly to right field from Kiera Cooper taking a one run lead for the Owls. Guzowski added another stolen base during the sequence, her second of the day.

ETSU battled back with a flurry of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to retake the lead, but the Owls didn't go down without a fight. They were able to gather three runs in the bottom of the seventh and were lifted but an Amerson-Fox triple that was nearly inches away from a two-run homer in center field.

The six-run total proved to be the highest of the Owls season surpassing three runs scored versus UTSA.

Spotlight Performances
Kiera Cooper ended the game 2-3, two RBIs and two runs scored providing the lone double of the game for the Owls. Reese Evans scored the first multi-hit game of her career.

Kennesaw State was aggressive yet again on the base paths swiping four total bags in game two and seven overall.

Next Up
KSU will face Ole Miss for the second time at 4 p.m. Saturday Feb. 17 followed by a 6:30 p.m. first pitch versus Pitt.
