KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's soccer scored in the 88th minute when Queens had an offensive miscue and knocked the ball into its own net as the Owls battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
KSU finished with a season-best 15 shots, led by Macie Rainwater and Kendall Hoskins with three each. Allanah Blye was strong once again at goalkeeper for the Owls and finished with three saves after posting back-to-back shutouts in her previous two starts.
The Royals struck first after Hilda Svensson converted a cross with a header in the 11th minute to grab a 1-0 lead. The Owls had several opportunities to score in the first half but could not capitalize on the chances. KSU finished the half with 10 shots but just one shot was on-target through the first 45 minutes.
Kennesaw State's defense took control in the second half, limiting Queens to just three shots and held the Royals to just nine shots for the game, a season-low in shots allowed for the Owls.
The play of the match occurred in the 88th minute when the KSU offense pushed the ball upfield. Queens tried clearing the ball back to the goalkeeper but pushed the ball into the goal instead as the Owls tied the match at 1-1.
