JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Kennesaw State posted its second consecutive shutout and kicked off ASUN play with a 1-0 win over Jacksonville State on Sunday at the JSU Soccer Complex.
Allanah Blye finished with five saves and
Aly Bryan scored the game-winner to pace the Owls. Blye improved to 3-1 as a starter at goalkeeper this season and has been a catalyst in the Owls' defensive resurgence over the past two games, posting back-to-back shutouts on the pitch.
KSU improved to 3-1 against the Gamecocks and an 8-6-4 mark in ASUN openers.
Bryan opened the scoring for the Owls six minutes into the contest.
Agata Giani advanced the ball up the field and
Macie Rainwater dumped off a pass as Bryan hooked a shot into the top left corner of the net for her first career goal.
Scoring opportunities were scarce for both teams the final 38 minutes of the first half. KSU finished the half with two shots and limited the Gamecocks to five shots but just one on-target.
Offense continued to be at a premium in the second half as both teams managed six shots each, but the KSU defense continued its strong play. Kennesaw State allowed a season-low 11 shots and tied a season-low five shots-on-goal against Jacksonville State.
KSU finished with eight shots on the day, with
Chiara Singarella leading the Owls with four shots and two on-target. Bryan finished with two shots and
Tianna Rivera and
Macie Rainwater each had one.
Next Match
The Owls take on conference newcomer Queens in the ASUN home opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
