SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team scored the game's first six goals and never looked back on the way to a 22-9 road victory at Wofford on Saturday afternoon. With both their highest goal total and largest win margin of the year, the Owls improved to 3-3 overall while the Terriers dropped to 1-3.
KEY PLAYERS: Siena Gore was just one score off matching her jersey number, as the senior midfielder notched a game-high six goals while adding an assist.
Zoe King, a junior with one career goal before Saturday's game, posted her first career hat trick.
Mia MacKenzie and
Chesslyn Lamar both posted two goals each.
THE RUNDOWN: Five different Owls all scored during the opening 6-0 run for KSU. After the Terriers finally got on the board with 4:48 to close within 6-1, King and Gore posted the next two scores to put KSU back up 8-1. Wofford made a pair of rallies, the first a 3-0 run to make it an 8-4 game. The Owls then scored five of the next six to go back up 13-5. KSU was then held to just one goal in the third while Wofford scored two and added two more to begin the fourth to make it a 14-9 score. KSU closed out the game by scoring the next eight goals of the afternoon.
QUOTEABLE: "I thought we gave it a great team effort today. Having 13 different goal scorers and people subbing in and keeping the intensity going gave us a big spark. In the backfield, we held them to nine total goals, while last season they had nine goals on us at halftime. That shows a large improvement from our defenders and goalie. I think this is a game that we can build momentum off of. I'm proud of the good things I saw today."–
KSU head coach Laura Maness.
