KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State senior
Siena Gore showed why she's the nation's leading scorer, as the Alpharetta native added to her season goal total with a career and school-record tying nine goals to pace the Owls to their third straight win, 18-8 over Presbyterian in women's college lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon from Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The win moved KSU to 7-4 overall for the year, continuing the best start in program history. The Blue Hose meanwhile dropped to 2-6 for the season.
KEY PLAYERS: Gore's nine goals ties for the most in the nation this year in a game, and she's also the only player to reach nine in a game twice, while she now has 53 on the season.
Hannah Barth was the other Owl with multiple goals in the game with two.
Julia Weiss played the entire second half in the net and allowed just two goals while recording four saves.
THE RUNDOWN: Gore opened the scoring 32 seconds into the game and assisted on
Caroline Farley's goal two minutes later for a 2-0 KSU edge. The Blue Hose showed fight early in their game though, reeling off three unanswered for its first lead of the game at 3-2 with five minutes to play in the opening quarter. After a pair of Owl goals, PC answered back with two of its own for a 5-4 edge. That would be the final lead of the afternoon for the visitors, as KSU scored three of the next four goals to go up 8-6 at halftime. Weiss then came into the goal for the Owls, and helped keep PC scoreless in the third quarter. KSU took advantage by scoring eight unanswered goals in the third. That was part of an overall 12-1 run that put the game away with the Owls leading 16-6 with just over 11 minutes to play.
QUOTEABLE: "Presbyterian came out really hard, one of our team goals was to hold them under their scoring average and holding them to eight was exactly what we need to do to accomplish that. But we gave up four of those in the first quarter, so I think we made good adjustments on the defensive side. We were then able to win the next three quarters. Offensively I think we had a great day, we had nine different scorers, plus having another multi-goal score game from Siena really put us in a position where everyone was a scoring threat today. I also was very happy with our draws unit, we focused on draw controls coming in, and they did a great job on that today to give us extra possessions." -
KSU head coach Laura Maness.
