JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Kennesaw State volleyball's suffered through its worst hitting contest of the season and Central Arkansas took advantage, as the Sugar Bears handed KSU a stunning 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 22-25) loss Saturday afternoon on the campus of Jacksonville State. The Owls dropped to 7-6 overall, 1-1 in league play with the setback, while UCA moved to 3-8, 1-1 in the ASUN.
KSU was behind the entire first set, but looked to have turned it around in set two with 12-8 and 16-12 leads. UCA however responded with a 10-2 run to take over the lead and held on for the set win. Again, the Owls looked like they were on the way to set victory in set three thanks to a 21-13 advantage. The Sugar Bears however ended the match by scoring 12 of the last 13 points, including a run of nine straight to claim match point.
STAT OF THE GAME: It was by far KSU's lowest hitting percentage of the season, as the Owls recorded a .097 in the first, .094 in the second before posting a .108 in the final set. That ended up at .097 for the match (35K-24E-113TA).
QUOTEABLE: "To say we struggled to find any sustained rhythm today is an understatement. Naturally we had a good number of moments throughout the game, but our lack of overall consistency in nearly all phases of our game just killed us. UCA came up with more plays in the key moments than we did and the result speaks for itself. Tomorrow is a new day however and we'll need to be better to give ourselves a chance."– KSU head coach Keith Schunzel
NOTES:
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls close out the weekend with a Sunday match against host Jacksonville State at 6 pm.
