KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior defender Abby Roth struck a free kick just beyond an outreached hand of the goalkeeper and inside the right post in the 83rd minute to break a scoreless tie that sparked the Kennesaw State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Jacksonville Friday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Roth's third goal of the season lifted the Owls to 6-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in ASUN Conference play. With senior Mady Carter in goal, KSU posted its sixth goal of the season, equaling the team's entire total from a year ago.

QUOTING THE COACH
"We've been coming off a little bit of adversity the past few weeks and haven't been in the win column for a while, so we've been challenging the team to take a little more ownership of how hard they play and the effort level they give every time out," head coach Benji Walton said. "We stayed with our game plan and played some of the best team defense we have all year, and we kept getting opportunities, kept getting corner kicks and looks but we couldn't finish.

"Late in the game, we finally got the look and I credit Emily Sosa for challenging the keeper," Walton added. "I think it distracted her and went right by her. I'm glad my team just kept fighting and I think that's why we got that goal."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
