Atlanta, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's and women's track teams posted some strong performances as they opened the outdoor season at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday.
"We had an outstanding day today," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "Much better than I expected. I was anticipating practicing our outdoor events since this is our first outdoor meet, but our student-athletes demonstrated how well they've been preparing for the last several months."
On the women's side,
Marija Bogavac set a new school record in the javelin throw by 10m with a toss of 54.7m (179'8) to collect a victory. That throw is currently number one in the NCAA and broke her current record in Montenegro by 4m.
Shakedra Robinson had a lifetime best toss of 35.13m (115'3) and earned a sixth place finish.
Shermaine Pinkard won the hammer throw with a toss of 47.77m (156'8) and teammate Greta Pickelaite was third after tossing a personal best 43.42m (142.5).
Morgan Campbell set the school record in the long jump with a jump of 5.89m (19'4) finishing second.
Kidan Kidane continued her strong season by winning the 10K by nearly three minutes in 35:13.68 and setting a new school record by nearly 10 seconds. That time currently is the fastest in the NCAA this season.
On the men's side, Fabeon Tucker finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.89m ( 170'3).
Bilal Abdullah grabbed eighth place in the javelin with a personal best throw of 43.86m (143'10).
Redshirt Senior
Andre Dorsey made his return to competition for the first time since the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships. Running on short approaches, Dorsey jumped 7.40m (24'3.5) to earn the victory.
Terrell Singleton won the 400m-hurdles in 53.22 seconds which set a new personal best time for him.
Jordan Hand took home a third place finish in the 10k in 33:34.87.
Day two of the Emory Invitational is scheduled to take place on Saturday (Mar.19) at the Emory University track.
