CHARLESTON, S.C. – A brace from junior Cassidy Kemp helped lead the Kennesaw State soccer team to a 3-2 win over The Citadel in the Owls' final match of the Charleston Cup on an overcast and rainy Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) at Washington Light Infantry Field in Charleston, S.C.

After a scoreless first half of action, the Owls wasted little time in start of the second period as Kemp took a free ball in the midfield and dribbled into the 18-yard box, before finishing into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

KSU added to its lead in the 66th minute when sophomore Khatra Mahdi was taken down in the 18-yard box and senior Hannah Churchill converted the awarded penalty kick for the 2-0 advantage.

A foul in the box for the Bulldogs in the 79th minute then lead to a Katherine Arroyo penalty kick to trim the lead to 2-1, but the Owls responded just two minutes later as Kemp netted her second goal after picking up a short Citadel clearance and finishing into the left side of the goal.

The Citadel pushed in a second goal with just over two minutes left in regulation to cut the score to 3-2, but the Owls defense held strong for the victory.

Kennesaw State will continue its road swing with a trip back to South Carolina, traveling to Greenville to battle against Furman on Friday (Sept. 11) at 7 p.m., before taking on Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe South Carolina on Monday (Sept. 14) at 6 p.m. in Columbia.
