BSB: Owls, Ospreys Set To Conclude Regular Season With A-Sun Series

The Owls will take on first-place North Florida over the weekend from May 14-16.

In The Hole
• The Kennesaw State baseball team concludes its regular-season schedule with three road games this weekend at North Florida.
• The Owls are in the midst of wrapping up their regular season games with four road games this week.
• KSU defeated Georgia Southern late Tuesday evening (May 12), finishing the season with an 18-16 mark in non-conference play for the 2015 season.
• The Owls batted .261 in non-conference games this season, totaling 56 doubles, six triples and 23 home runs. KSU got outscored by one run in its 34 games in non-conference action, 187-186.
• Kennesaw State will enter its final regular-season weekend against North Florida with a 27-24 overall record and a 9-8 mark in the A-Sun.
• The Owls clinched one of the six Atlantic Sun slots in the upcoming tournament with a win over Jacksonville Saturday (May 9) afternoon, with the help of a FGCU win over Northern Kentucky.
• Seedings for the tournament are still yet to be determined, but North Florida has won at least a share of the regular-season title with a 14-4 mark in conference play.

Notes To Remember in 2015
• Then ranked 19th, Kennesaw State hosted 25th-ranked Liberty in the season opener at Stillwell Stadium. It marked the first time in program's history the Owls hosted a matchup of two teams inside the top 25. KSU went on to win the game, 11-9, with Kendall Hawkins earning the win on the mound.
• Head coach Mike Sansing won his 1,000th career game on March 27, 2015 against USC Upstate in a 5-0 final. Sansing is now in his 27th season at the helm of the program, and his 24th as the Owls' skipper.
• KSU landed the Team of the Year award at the Atlanta Sports Awards ceremony. Max Pentecost, 2014 Johnny Bench Award winner, also took home the Collegiate Athlete of the Year award. Coach Sansing was also a Coach of the Year finalist on March 5, 2015.
Jordan Hillyer was honored as one of seven Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week winners on March 23, 2015.
• The Owls' win on the road at Georgia Tech Tuesday (April 21) night, it marked the first time in program's history KSU defeated the Yellow Jackets in back-to-back seasons on the road. Kennesaw State defeated GT last year at Russ Chandler for the first time since 1989.
• KSU took 2-of-3 from Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb on the road on April 24-26, defeating the Bisons in a regular-season series for the first time since 2011. In fact, the Owls defeated Lipscomb in a series on the road for the first time since 2006.
• The Owls finished the 2015 home slate with a 15-13 mark, giving KSU a winning record at Stillwell Stadium for the fifth consecutive season.
• Kennesaw State's showdown with Georgia Southern on May 12 will mark the first time this season the Owls are showcased on ESPN3.

On Deck
• The Owls will turn their attention towards the regular-season A-Sun Champions, North Florida on May 14-16 in their regular-season series finale against the Ospreys.
• Kennesaw State will enter the weekend holding a 22-9 all-time mark against UNF, with taking the last five games.
• KSU defeated UNF in back-to-back games to reach the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship for the first time in program history.

Erwin's Big Night
Chris Erwin had arguably his best night as an Owl during his young career at KSU.
• The sophomore struck out a career-high 15 strikeouts over 7.1 innings of work, which tied the school record for most K's in a single game.
• It was the most strikeouts in a game in KSU history since Kyle Heckathorn fanned 15 himself back in 2009.
• In fact, Erwin's 15 strikeouts were the most in a single game since Chris Sale struck out 15 on April 23, 2010. Sale is now pitching in the MLB and is a former CY Young Award winner.
• Erwin now sits with an overall record of 5-4 on the mound and an ERA of 4.92. The lefthander has 64 strikeouts to 27 walks over 60.1 innings of work.
• The two-way player also leads the team at the plate, batting .333 entering the final weekend.
• Erwin leads the team with 60 hits on the year, and has compiled 10 doubles, a team-best two triples and five homers for a team-leading 35 RBI.

Williams Goes Yard
• Freshman Grant Williams recorded his first collegiate career home run in the bottom of the fourth inning on Sunday (May 10) afternoon against Jacksonville.
• It marked Williams' fifth extra base hit of the season, as the Atlanta, Georgia native has 41 out of his 46 hits as singles.
• Williams currently ranks third on the team with a .311 batting average in 41 games. The second baseman is fourth on the team with 46 hits and has compiled 22 RBI.

Liquori Staying Hot (Again)
Alex Liquori got his bat going on the road against Lipscomb, batting an incredible .615 with six RBI over the Bisons.
• The junior outfielder has continued, raising his batting average 119 points over the season to .252 in 37 starts. He has totaled 34 hits, one double and four home runs this season.
• Liquori totaled his fourth home run of the season against Georgia Southern Tuesday (May 12) evening, helping the Owls defeat the Eagles on the road.
• In fact, Liquori's recent success has come in Atlantic Sun play, batting an impressive .386 (17-for-44) with one home run and 10 RBI in 17 games.

Howell-ing For More
Jeremy Howell has been hot at the plate over the last several weeks, including a career-high 4-for-4 performance against Jacksonville.
• Howell is batting .444 (8-for-18) over his last five games to lead the Owls during the stretch.
• Only a sophomore, Howell currently ranks fourth on the team in batting average (.308), tied for first in doubles (11), seventh in RBI (21) and has a .384 slugging percentage in 43 starts at third base this season.

Allum Loves The Sun
• With the Owls back in conference play, freshman Taylor Allum couldn't be anymore excited. Allum will enter the weekend batting an impressive .418 (23-for-55) in 17 Atlantic Sun games.
• Allum leads the team in batting average (.418), doubles (4), second in hits (23) and second in RBI (10) in A-Sun play this season.
• Overall, Allum is batting .313 (35-for-112) in 36 games this season. The freshman has compiled seven doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI while totaling a .429 slugging percentage.

Up Next
• The Owls will take flight down to the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on May 20-14 in Fort Myers, Florida to defend their 2014 Championship.
• Kennesaw State entered last year's tournament as the No. 3 seed, but seedings have not yet been determined outside of UNF's No. 1 seed.
• All six teams have locked spots in the tournament, including North Florida, Stetson, Lipscomb, FGCU, Kennesaw State and Jacksonville.
