BSB: Owls, Eagles Set For Midweek Showdown on ESPN3

The Owls and Eagles will take flight on ESPN3 Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

In The Hole
• The Kennesaw State baseball team concludes its regular-season schedule with four road games this week.
• The Owls will take on Georgia Southern Tuesday (May 12) evening on ESPN3 before trekking down to Jacksonville, Florida to take on A-Sun opponent North Florida.
• KSU will enter the week with a 26-24 overall record and a 9-8 mark in conference play. The Owls sit 4.5 games back of the first place Ospreys, which KSU will take on it its final three games.
• The Owls clinched one of the six Atlantic Sun slots in the upcoming tournament with a win over Jacksonville Saturday (May 9) afternoon, with the help of a FGCU win over Northern Kentucky.
• Seedings for the tournament are still yet to be determined, but North Florida has won at least a share of the regular-season title with a 14-4 mark in conference play.

Notes To Remember in 2015
• Then ranked 19th, Kennesaw State hosted 25th-ranked Liberty in the season opener at Stillwell Stadium. It marked the first time in program's history the Owls hosted a matchup of two teams inside the top 25. KSU went on to win the game, 11-9, with Kendall Hawkins earning the win on the mound.
• Head coach Mike Sansing won his 1,000th career game on March 27, 2015 against USC Upstate in a 5-0 final. Sansing is now in his 27th season at the helm of the program, and his 24th as the Owls' skipper.
• KSU landed the Team of the Year award at the Atlanta Sports Awards ceremony. Max Pentecost, 2014 Johnny Bench Award winner, also took home the Collegiate Athlete of the Year award. Coach Sansing was also a Coach of the Year finalist on March 5, 2015.
Jordan Hillyer was honored as one of seven Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week winners on March 23, 2015.
• The Owls' win on the road at Georgia Tech Tuesday (April 21) night, it marked the first time in program's history KSU defeated the Yellow Jackets in back-to-back seasons on the road. Kennesaw State defeated GT last year at Russ Chandler for the first time since 1989.
• KSU took 2-of-3 from Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb on the road on April 24-26, defeating the Bisons in a regular-season series for the first time since 2011. In fact, the Owls defeated Lipscomb in a series on the road for the first time since 2006.
• The Owls finished the 2015 home slate with a 15-13 mark, giving KSU a winning record at Stillwell Stadium for the fifth consecutive season.
• Kennesaw State's showdown with Georgia Southern on May 12 will mark the first time this season the Owls are showcased on ESPN3.

On Deck
• The Owls will turn their attention towards the Eagles of Georgia Southern on May 12 at J.I. Clements Stadium on ESPN3.
• Kennesaw State will look to even the home-and-home series, as the Eagles defeated the Owls 8-4 at Stillwell Stadium.
•KSU will enter Tuesday's showdown with the Eagles 9-8 all-time, as the two will conclude its 2015 series marking the fifth consecutive season they have played at least two games in one season.
• Kennesaw State is 4-5 over the last nine games against the Eagles dating back to 2011. But, the Owls own arguably the most impressive win in the history of the two programs, winning the Tallahassee Regional.  

Scouting Georgia Southern
• The Eagles will enter ESPN3's contest with an overall record of 28-23, winning just one game over their last six contests.
• Georgia Southern is coached by Rodney Hennon, who is in his 18th season at the helm of a program—including his 16th season as the Eagles' skipper. Hennon has compiled a 568-388 record with GSU, and has led the program into its first season in the Sun Belt Conference.
• Georgia Southern has won at least 30 games in all but one season under Hennon's guidance and have posted 40 or more wins three times.
• The Eagles defeated #5 national seed Florida State in the 2014 Tallahassee Regional before falling to Kennesaw State.
• Georgia Southern is batting .261 as a team, compiling 75 doubles, eight triples and 43 home runs.
• GSU is lead by Kody Adams at the plate in 2015, batting a team-high .326 and 58 hits in 48 games. Adams has compiled 13 doubles, two triples and two home runs for 16 RBI, slugging .455 in 45 starts.
• Chase Griffin is the only Eagle to start in all 51 games this season, batting .283 with 56 hits, 11 doubles, one triple and five home runs. Griffin also owns 28 RBI and a .424 slugging percentage.
• Aaron Mizell has played an important role in the Eagles' lineup this season, batting .296 while tied for the most hits with 58 hits. Mizell also leads the team in triples (3), home runs (12) and slugging percentage (.571) while playing in 50 of the possible 51 games.

Owls vs. In-State Teams
• Kennesaw State will take on Georgia Southern in its final non-conference regular-season game of the 2015 slate.
• The Owls are currently 4-5 against teams in the state of Georgia in 2015, posting wins against Mercer, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Savannah State.
• KSU will enter Tuesday's clash batting .255 against in-state teams, posting 78 hits, 11 doubles, two triples and three home runs.
• The biggest draw back for the Owls during the nine games against teams in the state of Georgia is the fifth inning, getting outscored 20-4. The Owls are just 6-16 when the opponent scores first.
• KSU is outscoring opponents 18-16 (+2 margin) throughout the first four frames in those nine games, has owns an 18-4 mark when scoring the first run.
Kal Simmons and Alex Liquori have reached base safely in all nine games against in-state rivals, while Brennan Morgan is right behind with seven.
Chris Erwin –who will be making the start Tuesday evening—has three starts and five appearances against teams in the state, posting an ERA of 3.66 while striking out 22 batters.

Williams Goes Yard
• Freshman Grant Williams recorded his first collegiate career home run in the bottom of the fourth inning on Sunday (May 10) afternoon against Jacksonville.
• It marked Williams' fifth extra base hit of the season, as the Atlanta, Georgia native has 41 out of his 46 hits as singles.
• Williams currently ranks second on the team with a .319 batting average in 40 games. The second baseman fourth on the team with 46 hits and has compiled 22 RBI.

Liquori Staying Hot
Alex Liquori got his bat going on the road against Lipscomb, batting an incredible .615 with six RBI over the Bisons.
• The junior outfielder has continued, raising his batting average 111 points over the season to .244 in 36 starts. He has totaled 32 hits, one double and three home runs this season.
• In fact, Liquori's recent success has come in Atlantic Sun play, batting an impressive .386 (17-for-44) with one home run and 10 RBI in 17 games.

Up Next
• The Owls will conclude their 2015 regular season slate on the road against A-Sun for North Florida, who clinched at least a share of the regular-season titled last weekend.
• The Ospreys are currently on an 11-game win streak, and will take on UCF Tuesday night before hosting the Owls on May 14-16.
