KENNESAW, Ga. — The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team honored its lone senior, Allison Senft, on Senior Night by defeating visiting Mercer, 15-14, to clinch a berth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Saturday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The Owls (5-12, 2-5) will be making their second A-Sun Tournament appearance when they take play Furman in the first that begins on Wednesday (April 29).

"We prepared a lot for composure. We knew it was going to be a tight game and we knew Mercer was going to come out strong," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "The biggest emphasis this week was controlling the tempo and that paid off for us towards the end of the game."

Sydney Farwick and Lucy Mills each had five goals in the game. Taylor McGhee and Victoria Stairs had two goals each and Connor Zophy contributed one for the Owls.

"Sydney's a leader and we've switched her from the midfield to the attacking area because we needed someone to compose the situations down there," Llanes said. "We have other attackers who are extremely potent, but Syd is very calm. We depended on her going into this game and she stepped up."

Both teams put up a resilient fight, tying the score seven times throughout the gripping game before finalizing the win. Stairs scored the game winning goal in the rousing game, assisted by Farwick, with 1:36 left to play.

"We knew it was going to be a tight game and we knew it was going to be down to the last minute, and that's exactly what happened," Farwick said.

Senft had three saves during her last regular-season game.

Laura Jordan had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Haley O'Donoghue helped out with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The Owls first-round game against Furman will be available on Watch ESPN.

"Like the rest of the season, we will just take it one game at a time," Llanes said. "We'll prepare our best."
