DELAND, Fla. –
A resilient Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team came up short in an intense battle against the Stetson Hatters in a 12-10 game on Friday, April 10 in Deland, Florida.

"We knew going in it was going to be a hard fought battle and were ready for the physical play," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "Our offensive unit was confident with the ball tonight and were able to get the shots off we needed, but placement was slightly off. Defensively, Elaine was solid, composed and stepped up big with her saves. I'm proud of tonight's performance and the fight our team showed."

Elaine Bradley set a career high with 13 saves in the game and led the Owls to 14 of 19 on clears.

Lucy Mills led KSU with a goal and four assists on the night, while Sydney Farwick had three goals, picked up three ground balls, won three draw controls and caused one turnover.

The game started out with both teams playing strong defense as the game was scoreless for ten minutes until Victoria Stairs put the Owls up 1-0.

With the score tied at two, Connor Zophy and Mills each scored to give KSU their largest lead of the night at 4-2. The Hatters responded with two goals of their own to even the score back up at four.

After trading goals two more times and the score tied at six, Taylor McGhee netted a free position attempt putting the Owls back up by one with 18:36 to go. Over the next seven minutes, Stetson finally grabbed their first lead of the game after going on a 5-0 run to go up 11-7.

Down the stretch KSU outscored the Hatters 3-1, but ran out of time in their comeback attempt.

The loss moves the Owls to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in Atlantic Sun play, while Stetson is 5-10 and 2-3.

Kennesaw State continues Atlantic Sun play next weekend against Jacksonville on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
