KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team fell to the Detroit Titans by a score of 21-9 on Sunday, March 29 on a windy Titan Field.
Â
"After Furman, we emphasized cleaner play and more intentional ball movement, and we did make progress in turnovers and fouls today," head coach
Kristina Llanes said.
Â
Sydney Farwick,
Taylor McGhee,
Monica Albertson and
Victoria Stairs each had a pair of goals for the Owls.
Â
Stairs also led the team with five draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Â
KSU controlled the pace of the game early after winning the opening draw allowing McGhee to score to put the Owls up 1-0.
Â
After the next McGhee shot that went off of the cross bar, Detroit picked up the rebound and took the ball down to get the equalizer at the 24:23 mark in the first half. Over the next few minutes, UDM extended their lead to 6-1.
Â
"An early six-goal deficit hurts us when we don't play with the urgency necessary against potent shooters like UDM has," Llanes said. "We will look for a more collective effort on Thursday."
Â
Both team's continued to put the ball in the net as there were 21 goals total in the first 30 minutes with Detroit leading 15-6 at the break.
Â
There was much less scoring in the second half as Detroit held the edge 6-3 for the final score of 21-9.
Â
Elaine Bradley subbed in with a little over 10 minutes left in the first half and made seven saves for KSU. She also came up with four ground balls.
Â
Next weekend, the Owls will host Howard on Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. and Old Dominion on Saturday, April 4 at noon.
