KENNESAW, Ga. –
In a game that was delayed because of lightning for an hour and a half, the Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team jumped out quickly to a lead over the Howard Bison and cruised to a 21-4 victory.

The team set the tone early by dominating the draw controls winning 21 of the 27 in the game behind Sydney Farwick and Victoria Stairs combining to win 14 of those.

"Our draw control team was a huge factor in the outcome of the game," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "Victoria and Sydney worked hard on positioning and placement and that lead to the offense producing. Defensively, Elaine (Bradley) did a nice job directing the defense in smart, patient plays in less than ideal playing conditions."

Farwick filled up the stat sheet finishing the game with four goals, three assists, six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Stairs led the team with eight draw controls and also had a goal and an assist.

As impressive as Farwick and Stairs were on the draw, freshman Monica Albertson tied a Kennesaw State record with nine points in the game. She had seven goals on seven shots and dished out two assists.

"We were able to get a lot of different people involved tonight," Llanes said. "It's great to have freshman like Monica step up in a big conference game."

Coming out of the lighting delay, Farwick won the opening draw went down and scored 15 seconds into the game to put the Owls up 1-0.

After Howard tied the game up at one, KSU scored seven unanswered goals to go up 8-1 and never looked back from there.

Kennesaw State had 34 shots on goal to Howard's nine.

Elaine Bradley got the start in goal tonight and made five saves and only allowed three goals.

The win moves the Owls to 4-9 on the season and 1-2 in the Atlantic Sun.

On Saturday, Kennesaw State will host Old Dominion at 12 p.m. in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
