GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team lost their Atlantic Sun Conference opener to the Furman Paladins 19-8 on Tuesday, March 25.
"The looks and opportunities were there for us today, but we just took too long to take advantage of them," head coach
Kristina Llanes. "Furman has a well oiled attack and by the time we got our feet under us on defense, we couldn't take back momentum. Moving forward to UDM, we will look to focus on staying urgent rather than frantic with our decisions."
Sydney Farwick led the team with three goals and one assist. She also picked up three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover.
Taylor McGhee and
Victoria Stairs each had two goals.
After the Paladins scored the first two goals,
Lucy Mills got the Owls on the board to cut the lead to 2-1.
From there, Furman responded and scored seven unanswered goals to go up 9-1. KSU ended the run with two goals of their own from Farwick and Stairs.
Coming out of the locker room, the Owls scored the first two goals to get within five, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Allison Senft and
Elaine Bradley split time in the cage and combined to make 12 saves.
With the loss the Owls fall to 3-8 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
Kennesaw State will be back in action this weekend on Sunday, March 29 against Detroit at 12 p.m.
